Architecture has played a role in the public representation of EU institutions. By looking at the history of EU Council family pictures - portraits taken in every summit with all the heads of state, this text traces the architectural evolution in parallel to the power narratives of the European project. The displacement from palaces and national monuments to multimedia broadcasting sets goes hand in hand with the growth and transformation of the EU from a community of countries to the largest supranational union in the world.

Transitando desde las discotecas para niños, con sesiones matinales, a las discotecas punk, donde se arrojaban animales muertos, se descubren los espacios que albergaron las expresiones públicas de tranformación social durante los años de la transición política y la eclosión del diseño barcelonés después.

The development of the European Union project happened in parallel to the implementation of an institutional communication complex. This text takes the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the EU Commission in Brussels, as a case study to address the interdependency between comunication systems, architecture and politics in Europe. EU institutional architecture is a media-interface between politicians and citizens. TV sets, radio stations, photocalls, conference theatres and cellphones, produce a constant stream of data, the managment of which has become digital institutional architecture.

El desarrollo del proyecto de la Unión Europea sucede en paralelo a la implementación de un complejo de comunicaciones institucional. Este texto toma el edificio Berlaymont, sede de la Comisión de la Unión Europea en Bruselas, como caso de estudio para investigar la interdependencia entre sistemas de comunicaciones, arquitectura y política en Europa. La arquitectura institucional de la UE es una interfaz mediática entre politicos y ciudadanos. Platós de televisión, estaciones de radio, photocalls, salas de conferencias, teléfonos móbiles, producen un flujo incesante de información, la gestión del cual se ha convertido la nueva arquitectura digital de las instituciones.
